Count The Stars
In this fun and engaging activity, your preschooler will have the opportunity to use cognitive skills such as counting, adding, measurement, and one-to-one correspondence. Your preschooler will also be using fine motor skills when moving the stars, rolling the dice, and manipulating the stars onto the board. If your little one is old enough they will also have the opportunity to practice some writing skills when recording the equations!
To complete this activity you will need the count the stars game mat, die, stars, the scientific recording sheet, and a pencil. Everything but the pencil is included in this month’s Space Box. (We told you it was the best preschool subscription box around!)
Space Race Game
Your preschooler will have a blast racing to the finish line in this space-themed alphabet race! Your preschooler will have the chance to practice alphabet knowledge, letter identification, counting, fine motor, and even social-emotional skills such as taking turns all in this one simple activity. The ability to fit several skills into each activity is another reason this box really is the best preschool subscription box you will find!
The amazing part is- they are just playing! Playing to learn is one of the best ways to help your child obtain and retain knowledge in a way that is simple, easy, and fun!
To complete this activity you will need the space race game mat, 2 playing pieces, a paperclip, and a pencil (everything but the pencil is included in this month’s Space Box!)
Your preschoolers will take their playing piece and place it on the rocket, using the pencil and paperclip you can make a makeshift spinner, and allow your child to spin the paperclip and land on a letter. Once the paperclip stops spinning ask your child what letter they have landed on.
Your child(ren) will then move their piece to the next spot on the board containing the letter they landed on!
If your little ones are still learning their letters, no problem! Simply tell your child the letter they have landed on, and encourage your child to find the matching letter on the board.
The fun part about this activity is that you can reuse it over, and over again. As your child advances, have them tell you the letter, what sound it makes, or another word that begins with the letter.
Each time you play your child will be retaining more and more information, all while having fun!
Straw Rocket STEM & Craft Kit
Everything to complete this amazing STEM activity is included in the box! (Just make sure to grab a pair of scissors) The addition of STEM activities makes this box unique to others, and it is why we truly believe it is the best preschool subscription box you will find online!
Your little one will use their creativity to decorate their favorite rocket, cut it out, and use the included glue dot to glue it onto the pipette (also included). The amount of developmental skills being covered in this one simple activity is astonishing. Before your child even gets to the actual activity they will have used their fine motor, pre-writing, and creativity to decorate, cut out, and place the rocket onto the pipette.
Your preschooler will be amazed at the ability to launch their rocket into the air with a single breath of air. To really engage your little ones' thought process, ask them why they think the rocket is able to launch, ask them what would happen if they removed the straw and tried instead to breathe air into the pipette - will the rocket still launch? If not… why?
Asking and answering these engaging questions during the activity will get your little one’s brain working, and set the stage for them to be curious about how things work in the world around them.
Solar System Mini Sticker Scene
This simple yet engaging activity is fun for children of all ages. If you are looking for proof that this really is the best preschool subscription box - you will find it here!
Everything for this activity is included inside this month’s Space Box, and this activity requires ZERO prep. Your child will simply pull the mini scene from the box and then move and manipulate the stickers onto the scene! This activity will develop your child’s fine motor movements as they work to peel off and stick on the stickers in various locations on the scene. Your child will also have the opportunity to develop their social-emotional and language skills as they use their imagination to create the scene and perhaps tell a story about what they have created. As a bonus, this mini-scene actually peels off to become a sticker itself! Allowing your preschooler to peel and stick their creations wherever they please.
Starry Shape Constellations
Do you have a budding astronomer on your hands? They will absolutely love this next activity. The best preschool subscription box for you- really is one that will engage your child’s interests, and we think this box will do just that!
Using items included in this month’s Space Box, your little one can bend and manipulate pipe cleaners and star beads to create constellations found on our Starry Shape Constellation cards.
This activity is a great way to encourage your kiddos geometry, science, pre-reading, fine motor, and spatial reasoning skills. Your child will also be using language skills as they follow directions and counting skills as they decide how many star beads to place on the pipe cleaners.
Solar System Ordinal Words
This activity will give your child the chance to develop several skills in one fun and engaging activity. If your child is old enough you can allow them to place the planet stickers onto the round wood pieces themselves giving them a chance to work on those fine motor skills needed for being able to build the muscles needed for writing.
If your child is not old enough for this- no problem! Simply place the stickers on yourself before beginning the activity.
Allow your child to grab one of the Solar System Ordinal Word cards (included in the box!) ask your child if they know which planet is depicted on the card. Feel free to help them out here!
Once the planet is identified, have your child find the matching planet piece you created earlier.
Next, take the time to make sure your child has read or heard the numeral and ordinal word that was depicted on the card.
“ You picked Jupiter! It is the fifth (5th) planet from the sun. 1,2,3,4,5" (hold up 5 fingers).
Guide your child in counting the planets on the Solar System Ordinal Words game mat until they find the planet depicted on the card.
This activity is enhancing your child's counting, reading, language, and fine motor skills in an activity that is easy, simple, and fun!
When you are deciding on the best preschool subscription box for you- it is important to note the complexity of the activities- My Pre-K Box is always filled with simple and easy activities that are engaging and fun!
Astronaut Rhymes
Your child will have the chance to work on their phonemic awareness, and auditory discrimination in this next activity. Simply remove the Astronaut Rhymes Cards from the box and arrange the blue astronauts on one side of the table, with the red astronauts on the other. Take a look at the picture in one of the blue astronaut’s helmets, then encourage your child to say the word out loud.
Next, assist your child in finding the matching word on one of the red astronaut’s helmets.
Feel free to provide as much assistance as needed throughout this activity.
As an added extension you can also turn all the cards upside down and play as a matching memory game!
Galaxy Slime Sensory Play
Space exploration just wouldn’t be complete without a chance to engage the senses in some galaxy slime play! Included in this month’s Space Box is a container of Galaxy slime sure to impress even the most experienced little slime fanatic! If you didn’t believe it before, you should now be convinced that this preschool subscription box is like no other! It really is the best preschool subscription box for your little one!
Your little one can move, squish, pull, stretch, mix, and explore this galaxy slime, giving them the opportunity to engage their senses and build their imagination.
Feel free to allow your child to add the included spaceman pieces, stars, or beads to give the slime a new and interesting feel.
While it may look like your child is just playing they are actually increasing their fine motor muscles needed for learning to draw and write, and it has also been proven that sensory play actually helps to build nerve connections in the brain which leads to your child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks in the future. How cool is that?
