Directions in creating your very own Zoo Train Craft!
Step 1 Download and print the free Zoo Train printables.
Step 2 Next, color all of the pieces of the train animals and train engine.
Step 3 Cut out the animals and train engine.
Step 4 Glue the animals to colored paper. Place one animal only on each piece of paper. The animal should be in the center of the paper. To add even more learning, you can write a letter in the middle of each paper. Your child reads the letter and finds the zoo animal with the letter's beginning sound to know which "cage" (or paper) to glue the animal on!
Step 5 Draw little dots about a centimeter apart along the top and bottom of the "cage" paper to show your child where to punch holes. Using the hole punch, allow your child to punch holes about a centimeter apart along the top and bottom. Hole punching is awesome for building hand strength, an important prerequisite to writing! And you'll be surprised how much little kids love it!
Step 6 Take a piece of string and have your preschooler string the yarn through the holes from top to bottom to create the bars of the cage. This is a fun threading exercise to help your child build up those fine motor skills!
Step 7 Glue the zoo train together and have fun playing with your little one! You can make a story about the zoo animal in the cage and let your kids continue your story! This will help them explore their imagination and improve their communication skills too!

What will your child learn in doing the Zoo Train Craft?
This activity is not only fun and entertaining, but it helps a lot in developing the crucial skills of your child!
- As they learn how to thread the yarn through the holes to the next one, they are gradually developing their fine motor skills and good hand-and-eye coordination.
- Coloring the train and animals also lets them improve their hand grip and control, which will be very helpful when they learn to write.
- They can also practice their scissor skills in the Zoo Train Craft as they cut out the animals and train, or the yarn!
- Be creative and explore their imagination as you create a story about the zoo animals. You'll be surprised how much they love it and you'll see how interested they are as they pour out questions about the story or make their own version of it!
