Using Your Letter the Leopard Craftivity
There are so many uses for this Letter the Leopard Craftivity, but I'm bringing you two of my favorite today. The first option for using this craftivity is simple uppercase letter identification. This is great for younger preschoolers or preschoolers who might not have had much exposure to letter identification in the past. Using the craftivity this way, will help your preschooler practice foundational pre-literacy skills that they will use for a lifetime!
Another way to use this Letter the Leopard Craftivity, is to have your preschooler match lowercase letters to the uppercase letters. This takes the difficulty up a notch as your preschooler will need to first find the lowercase letter and then match it to the corresponding uppercase letter.
Whichever way you choose to use this craftivity, one thing is for sure, your preschooler will have a blast!
Option #1: Uppercase Letter Identification
Option #1 Materials:
- Letter the Leopard Craftivity print out
- Scissors
- Crayons or markers (optional to if you decide to print on white paper)
- Do-a-Dot markers
Directions
Step 1 Print out the Letter the Leopard Craftivity on white or yellow paper, and either help your preschooler cut out the leopard's head or cut it out before introducing the activity.
Step 2 If you printed on white paper, have your preschooler color in the leopard, leaving the letter spots white.
Step 3 Let your preschooler pick out a Do-a-Dot marker. Tell them you are going to play a game where they will help give the leopard his spots. Give them one of the letters on the leopard to find. Once they find it, have them use their Do-a-Dot marker to cover up the letter and give the leopard his spot! Continue until the leopard has all of his spots, and your preschooler has identifed all of the letters.
Option #2: Uppercase and Lowercase Matching
Option #2 Materials:
- Letter the Leopard Craftivity print out
- Scissors
- Gluestick
- Crayons or markers (optional to if you decide to print on white paper)
- Black paper or black dot stickers
- Writing utensil that will show up on black (white out pen, mechanical pencil, chalk, white crayon, etc.)
Directions
Step 1 Print out the Letter the Leopard Craftivity on white or yellow paper, and either help your preschooler cut out the leopard's head or cut it out before introducing the activity.
Step 2 Cut out circles from black paper or you can use black circle stickers. Write one lowercase letter (that corresponds to the uppercase letters on the leopard) on each of the circles.
Step 3 If you printed on white paper, have your preschooler color in the leopard, leaving the letter spots white.
Step 4 Give your preschooler a glue stick and tell them you are going to play a game where they will help give the leopard his spots. Tell them to find one of the lowercase letters on the black circles. Then have them put glue on the circle and match to the uppercase letter. Continue until the leopard has all of his spots, and your preschooler has matched all of the letters.
